Andy Warhol

Description

The "Cowboys and Indians" paintings and drawings are an extension of the 14 silkscreen prints that Warhol was commissioned to do in early 1986. The silkscreens started off as graphite line drawings (to some of which he added acrylic wash) and were shown in Fort Worth in March of 1986 and then in June at the Museum of the American Indian in New York. Warhol died in February 1987 and never finished painting the whole series of images. The paintings that he did finish were shown for the very first time in this exhibition. They come directly from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts.
