Biography

Jenny Sharaf, born in Los Angeles in 1985, is a multidisciplinary artist. Her paintings, installations, videos, and happenings celebrate process, while reflecting on art history, feminism and abstraction. Sharaf is strongly influenced by the Hollywood vernacular, in part because of her family's history in the film and television business and growing up in Los Angeles.  Sharaf also has a strong mural practice, with walls as far as Tokyo and Beirut. The mythology of the California girl leads the way to tell a complex and fragmented narrative of art making in the 21st century.  She received her B.F.A. from University of Hawaii, Manoa and her M.F.A. from Mills College, Oakland. Recent solo exhibitions include California Promises, Air Project Gallery, Geneva; Jenny Sharaf, Haw Contemporary, Kansas City; Painted Portals, Portal Point, Tokyo; and Jenny Sharaf: Pre-Fall, Eleanor Harwood Gallery, San Francisco. Sharaf lives and works in San Francisco.
