This was the tenth exhibition of David Bates' paintings at the John Berggruen Gallery. Bates, a Texas native, devoted this body of work to an exploration of the landscape of his home state. Bates takes the viewer off the beaten path into the marshlands, swamps, and backcountry for a closer view of the local wildlife. Bates continues painting in his unique style: copious amounts of paint, broad flat brushwork, and bold outlining of forms.
