Mark Innerst
Biography
Mark Innerst was born in York, Pennsylvania in 1957 and earned his B.F.A. at Kutztown, Pennsylvania in 1980. He began his career in the early 1980s as part of a new art scene in downtown New York, working at two famous artist hangouts, Artists Space and the Kitchen. He was raised in New York and Pennsylvania near the Susquehanna River, and later lived in New York City where he did numerous paintings of the East River in a series called "Brooklyn Views." A resident of Nyack, New York from 1997, he became a landscape painter, especially of Pennsylvania and New York cityscape and river views.
In addition to exhibiting regularly in both solo and group shows, his works reside in a number of public collections: Albright Knox Museum, Buffalo, New York; Brooklyn Museum, New York; Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A.; Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; Indianapolis Museum of Art, Indiana; Los Angeles County Museum of Art, California; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Museum of Contemporary Art, The Barry Lowen Collection, Los Angeles, California; Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, California; Museum of Modern Art, New York; and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, Illinois. The artist currently lives and works in Cape May, New Jersey.
