David Bates
Biography
Dallas, Texas native David Bates creates works that are done in the more traditional technique of painting on canvas and panel, but is also prolific in his creation of hand-painted bronzes, aluminum pieces and wood constructions done as free-standing sculptures and low wall reliefs. In his distinctive, bold style David Bates uses his thick, lush painterly approach continuously throughout all of his work -- despite the medium.
David Bates' work is included in numerous public collections including the following: Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, PA; Corcoran Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, TX; Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Washington, D.C.; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY; and the Whitney Museum of Art, also in New York City.
